Good player with one or two shortfalls. The first thing that struck me was the size of the Amazon box. In a number of cases Amazon boxes are a lot larger than they need to be so when something so small arrived I wondered if I’d been sent the wrong thing! But no, opening it up revealed the Sony box and then the Blu Ray player. It really is very small indeed. probably about 50% smaller than a “normal” player and something I was very pleased about. With tech nowadays, small is definitely achievable, and this nails it.With most things Sony it feels like a quality product and well put together. Connecting it up was a breeze too – a normal HDMI lead and then follow the on screen instructions. Wifi is built in and setup is painless enough. A firmware update was required which is true of almost any gadget bought today, but again very painless to do.Blu Ray discs loads very quickly and a lot quicker than my 3 year old Samsung surround sound unit’s built in drive. Picture and sound quality was top…

The short review: Great! The short review: Great! The longer review: As someone with no particular technical expertise, I judge any new piece of equipment on its ease of set-up and use as well as its performance, and this Blu-Ray player passes both tests with flying colours. From box to playing a disc took under five minutes and connecting to the internet took roughly another ten, including downloading updates, and the whole process is so straightforward and obvious that I had no need to consult the enclosed instruction manual at all. The machine takes you through all the necessary steps, and there aren’t many of them. This is the first time I’ve had a Blu-Ray with internet connection and my ageing TV doesn’t either, so I am speaking as a complete novice – this is easy to set up.The Blu-Ray side of it gives great pictures – I also tried it with a fairly old DVD too and it came out looking better than it ever has before. It makes claims about colours looking vivid and true-to-life and in…

I bought this bijou Sony Blu-ray/DVD player for my 20 year old daughter who was using her Sony Viao laptop Blu-ray drive to watch DVD/Blu-ray & Netflix video on her 22″ Samsung Syncmaster 2494 PC monitor. Via HDMI this Sony BDP-S2500 player provides both sound and video to the PC monitor. Having a HDMI cable input, our Samsung PC monitor should be fully HDCP compliant for DRM Blu-ray playback, although I did check this was the case before ordering the Sony Blu-ray player. So this Blu-ray player should work with any panel TV or PC monitor with an HDMI input (provided the HDMI PC monitor has internal stereo speakers like ours or has a 3.5mm audio out for external sound). The Sony Blu-ray player is region 2 UK locked for both DVDs and Blu-ray though. This Sony player is ideal for bedroom/bedsit use being very small at 23 cm × 19.5 cm × 39 cm, and it has Netflix and Amazon Instant internet apps which is great as we subscribe to both (there’s even a direct button on the…
